Yes, recently I saw that a poor black guy got a 50 year sentence for stealing a rack of ribs.  Yet across the spectrum of daily corporate crime, those who are responsible for the deaths of thousands or ruining the lives of millions go completely free.  The most they suffer is a small fine, always a lower percentage on their illegal profits than a working person pays in taxes.

Recently, it was revealed that an estimated 140,000 "rape kits" around the country were never processed by our militarized police departments.  No matter what crimes a working class/poor person endures, our system claims  they are not worthy of justice.  All resources of the police state must be directed at caging/terrorizing  working class people and immigrants, and suppressing the voices of non-violent protesters.  The priorities in a military empire are totally sick.

As to Syria, war is always obscene.  Those who profit from war and lie to cause it, are the real beasts of the pit described in the apocalyptic literature of the Christians.  Rome was the contemporary empire of those writings, like the US of today.  It's sadly comical to see people waiting for four horseman, when it is simply an allegory of human tyranny and empire so celebrated.

Totally appreciate your point Glenn, that citizens are not being respected - rather were being exploited and unrepresented - vs. mercenary and mercantile profiteers!

France 24 news seemed to say that the Istanbul Gov't has ceased ultra-violence at least temporarily... thank goodness for that; meanwhile the U.N. says that in Syria there is chemical weaponry being used by both sides (which as Thoreau during the U.S. Civil War and other blood fests may have cried, was something like 'insults to injuries' on 'behalf' of 'true justice'). and a report by a France 24 group (or some one who they covered) says that many Muslim militia groups have used tactics (al Queda affiliated / esque groups) and have started arresting citizens without evidence under Shi'a court masked marauder heavily armed  'justice' crap.

I don't know if you've seen any coverage of the uprising by the corporate media.  They are using the same dismissal tactic as they used against the Occupy movement.  They are pretending that the uprising doesn't have a purpose, and asking; "what do they want?"  Then, they are trying to insinuate that the real reason people are revolting is secular/Muslim conflict.

Philadelphia:
With the plan to bulldoze the last public park in Istanbul to erect a shopping mall, I think it's a good time for residents to reevaluate their embrace of the privatization and commercialization of all Philadelphia public spaces like Clark Park and Dilworth Plaza.  While Turkey is foreshadowing many parts of our future, including police brutality, local people still believe the civic association leaders will be allowed their micro-dictatorships of our public spaces and that riches will trickle down.

The history of authoritarian regimes and the neo-colonial use of groups like FOCP/SHCA shows a different inevitable result!  We have allowed our parks to be given to corporate control!  Allowing the micro-dictatorships, during the gentrification, was the same as allowing colonial governors the power to brutalize in classical colonialism.  But the power of these governors is really an illusion, and is all concentrated around keeping the locals under control!  The leadership of FOCP/SHCA will eventually be horrified when they are pushed aside as throwaways, the same as they assisted our masters to categorize the people of this neighborhood as "prostitutes, gangs, and drug addicts."  This standard tactic of colonialism is commonly called, "divide and conquer."

I was never surprised that a few individuals would claim to represent the community in order to gain personal power.  But I was very surprised at how easily the rest of us allowed it to happen because Penn and Wall St. would pave our streets with gold!!!  

The big question for me is, are our neighbors finally willing to examine what is happening here and around the world, so that they can embrace humanity instead of worship of the plutocrats?

Unlike here, the people of Turkey value their PUBLIC park and are being killed defending it.  Do people still believe that privatization of parks by special service districts was a divine plan to bring paradise?  Are we happy that Philadelphia parks will be shopping centers, corporate event venues, or sold for private development??

Brave people of Turkey, the remaining citizens of the US stand in solidarity with you!
