"Expanded IHS services, including mental and behavior health treatment and prevention"

Rick, this deception really bothers me, and happens to fall into an area of expertise which is important to share.  Thanks for bringing it up.

I worked in behavioral health care research and treatment for 15 years with the most powerful corporate/university front men in the field.  If anything but a lie, this charity plank for Native Americans is nothing more than a profitable pharmaceutical bailout that opens a new population for human chemical experimentation on the taxpayers dime.

Behavioral health care has been so eviscerated for the 99% that it consists of nothing more than highly profitable pharmaceutical interventions.  For several decades, university researchers have used their pseudoscience in the development of the so called "medical model" to steer away from policies that are necessary to treat the addictions and mental health problems in our pathological capitalist society.  I personally developed interventions for literacy and employment programs carefully coordinated with in treatment of chemically addicted poor individuals.  And my small scale findings blew away, what Chomsky calls their"pieties," about cost effectiveness!  I got no where in advancing these interventions.  I was even told that I was so good at my work that social service providers were far too stupid to be able to replicate my tremendous successes.  According to the "experts," poorly paid and sabotaged social service providers are greedy drooling idiots like public school teachers.  By that point, however, I knew the role of corporate universities and their pseudoscience and left that racket in disgust!!  (By the way, my old boss became part of Obama's cabinet for a year.)

In another forum, I could explain the narrow definitions and indicators of success that are used by corporate operatives(aka university researchers) to guarantee failure.  (This is a major technique used in the destruction of public education and the general public doesn't realize that it is deliberate.)  And I can explain how to construct large expensive studies to guarantee that appropriate interventions look like failures, while honest researchers with good designs never get the resources to test a good intervention properly!  These deliberate failure studies are often done with partnerships from the corporate front men at business schools and always prove that interventions that don't bring massive corporate profits are not cost effective!.  The details would be too much for the listserv but are vital for people to start recognizing.

Rick, do you understand the massive poverty and psycho-social problems among many native populations?  And do you know that at least 3 of 4 poor to middle class people across the country, begging for addiction treatment, cannot access the most rudimentary form of treatment?  After decades of pursuing pharmaceutical only treatment for all behavioral healthcare issues; it's safe to conclude that this is simply a new market to push drugs paid for by the tax payers and cannot possibly indicate a desire to ameliorate the destructiveness of chronic poverty and chronic stress on occupied native lands or in West Philadelphia!  But oh, this charity sure sounds good when astroturf groups call health care activists; "fucking retards" like Rahm Emanual does.  Each time I've looked at these great healthcare reforms used in the sales pitch, I see little to no benefit to the vast majority in the subgroup, and if there would be temporary benefit, it's designed to be defunded or otherwise destroyed over time.

Rick, you cannot honestly treat behavioral health issues among the impoverished, while ignoring poverty and chronic stress!  The obfuscation around that truth is the entire purpose of the medical model of mental health, which is offered as an alternative to the right wing, Satan model of mental health.  It's another false dichotomy!  The medical model is designed as "evidence" guaranteeing corporate profits and is not the progressive, science based, paradigm it pretends to be!

Since I personally know the resilience of all peoples and the possibilities to reverse the debilitating trauma of poverty, this kind of deception makes me furious.  People need to ask themselves, are the democrats and republicans really going to deliver great charity to some abused groups, as they plot to destroy medicare, medicaid, and social security?  We've got to stop hoping and trusting the platitudes offered by the same people who prove they are at total war with the people of this planet!

Thanks for bringing this deception to our attention!  I appreciate the chance to bring out the truth, and as always, value our discussion.

Glenn

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, here are 3 quick ways Obamacare is helping Indian Country:

- Permanently Reauthorizes the Indian Healthcare Improvement Act.

- Expanded IHS services, including mental and behavior health treatment and prevention, long-term care services, dialysis services and more.

- Increasing clinician recruitment and retention in Tribal operated health programs and encouraging health professionals to join or continue in an Indian health program and to provide services in rural/remote areas.

Millions of people across the country are being dropped by their health insurance companies and offered new "products."  Individual policy holders are the first target, but the rest of the middle class will follow.

And another lie is coming from the democrats, that these cancellations are like the substandard policies Obamacare is peddling to the poor.  My outrageously expensive policy, being canceled, was for 100% coverage.  When the great "health reform" charade was first taking place, we were also all dropped and given $5000 deductibles in the new product.  Canceling these insurance "products" every year or two seems to have multiple purposes for Wall St., and will obviously be a central way of dumping the newly sick on the government after the sick are made bankrupt.

The crappy products some working poor will get through massive government subsidies to the criminal insurance industry will not help them access medical care nor will it keep most of them, or any of them with serious new illnesses, from going bankrupt.  For many, these barriers and catastrophes will be even more likely, as more of their income is directed to premiums and deductibles.  The Obamacare supporters pretend not to understand the barriers that a $5000-10,000 deductible means, after you send your last few dollars to a health insurance company.

Wall St. is trying to divide individual policy holders against the poor by thrusting millions of us into precarious situations.  Instead of seeing the entire Obamacare sham as a windfall for Wall St. that does not help the poor as their deceptions pretend, we are supposed to get angry at this fake "socialism" that is being used against us.

Millions of people are either being forced to absorb tremendous premium increases and deductible increases, or they will be forced to take the crappy Obamacare type insurance that will put them at increased risk for bankruptcy!  (It's simple math to look at common medical bills and calculate your 40%, 30% or 10% share after satisfying your deductible, prescription drugs and out of network expenses).

What these two political parties are doing for Wall St. is to change all health insurance into various levels of crappy catastrophe insurance that will eventually leave at least 50-75% of the American people at risk for medical bankruptcy and poor access to medical care while taking more profits from our meager incomes.  Medicare, medicaid, social security, and all social supports will then be attacked, and those of us already attacked, are to stay silent and blame the poor for our new insecurities!  Divide and conquer!

Wall St. and their Democrat/Republican servants are experts at manufacturing crises and pitting the middle class against the poor. All through this charade, the Obamacare astroturf groups pretended that the TEMPORARY consumer protections would stop profitable abuses by their corporate masters.  IT'S NOT REDUCED PROFITS THAT ARE PAYING FOR THE ELIMINATION OF PRE-EXISTING CONDITION REFUSALS, ETC.  It's skyrocketing premiums and deductibles from millions of people.  And they make more profit on that too!

Also, by constructing the system so that those insured families with serious new illnesses will quickly go bankrupt and be forced onto medicaid, they only risk insuring the sick for a limited time and hopefully many will die quickly.

I pay 7000 a year in premiums and a 5000 deductible before I would get 1 penny of health insurance coverage from Wall St.  Now they want a 6000 deductible and haven't given the new premium rate!  Do you see why health insurance stocks went up the day Obamacare passed?????

Here are some relevant links that should not be too difficult.

Here is a good explanation from Harvard researcher, Dr. Woolhandler.  She also coauthored the Harvard study of mortality rates among the uninsured.

"Many people are going to find that their insurance is just not very good. It doesn't give them the financial protection they need--particularly for people with serious and expensive chronic illnesses.

We've done a lot of work at PNHP, as you may know, on medical bankruptcy. While I was at Harvard Medical School, I worked with my Harvard colleague Elizabeth Warren at the law school on one of the most widely cited studies on medical bankruptcy. The most common single cause of medical bankruptcy was that people had insurance, but it had so many gaps--like co-payments, deductibles and uncovered services--that they were bankrupted anyway by a prolonged illness. That type of medical bankruptcy will continue--and, if anything, may increase--under Obamacare."
