X is most likely crashing, and X crashes are always driver/xserver issues, even 
if "normal" apps do trigger them.
If this is still an issue in a supported version of Ubuntu (9.04 would be 
best), please reopen this bug and provide:
-The output of the command lspci -vvnn
-A copy of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file after an X restart
