This is happening in Arch Linux too, so it seems like the more outdated distros like Lenny, Centos, etc., are the only ones where WDM still works correctly. There is one workaround that I know of, rather than clicking on exit or logout you need to shutdown the xserver via Alt- PrtScr-K (used to be Alt-Ctrl-Backspace) and then you will be able to log in again. WDM isn't restarting the xsession properly. In addition to the logout issue, you cannot get realtime prio even with the linux-rt kernel if you login via WDM. Realtime works correctly if you login with KDM, GDM, and XDM.
