I'm experiencing I think the same issue with LyX on Xubuntu Intrepid 8.10. I'm unable to copy paste text from OpenOffice to LyX at all. Simple text paragraphs without any graphics.
I'm able to paste them elsewhere (e.g. into Mousepad). Switching to LyX shows no recognition that there's anything in the clipboard. No paste options are visible in the Edit menu. Clicking the third button inserts nothing.
