Seems we are doing very similar things today ! The tar files are on the download pages - start at the following and download whichever branch you wantto go for: http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_nightly.html I went for 6.2.1
Save it wherever you can find it again! I'm as new to linux as you, so dont know all the various installs. However, the one I am using (Mepis - comes on a CD but can be installed to HD using a setup prog on the CD - its easy!) is very like windows. I just did a right click on the file I downloaded and it gave me the option to unpack to a dir. Put it into /usr/local/slimserver (I had to create the slimserver dir - but that was easy with the GUI) Next, I created the /etc/init.d/slimserver file by navigating to that dir using file browser (called Konqeuror in Mepis - prob the same in yours as its based on Debian too I think) and then EDIT-NEW on the menu. Once the file was there, I right clicked and opened with KWrite and then pasted the bits in directly from the forum post. Last line in the file should be: exit 0 I then followed the rest of the instructions (note the poster has put chmod twice in one line - should only be one..). Seems to be working fine. Dont worry about hurting anything - its the only way to learn. Just dive in. If it screws up, just re-install. It doesn't take long, and you'll get to know the system better. -- gingerneil ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gingerneil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18021 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
