I'm using a PII/300MHz with 384MB running Ubuntu 5.04. I have a library of nearly 1000 CDs on two 200GB SATA drives (which are formatted with NTFS because they came from an XP machine). It still boots in RL5, although it's headless and doesn't actually run a desktop.
Performance is not fast, but it's adequate. The web interface all works, but is a little slow and doesn't always get all the 'panes' when you first fire it up. I use Fishbone - although the latest ExBrowse is quite good and fast, but missing a few basic features (plugin pages). Remote response can be slow - particularly when first selecting something like 'Browse Artists' whilst it builds the list. I do occassionally get 30sec song dropouts - but very infrequently. I haven't yet managed to track down what the server is doing when this happens. The performance you're getting sounds worse that what I see. I'd suggest two things: 1) unload any plugins you're not using. Things like 'Visualiser' seem to slow things down a lot. I just have: Date & Time Music Info Random Mix Server & Network Health XML etc (for Exbrowse 3) I only have AlienBBC loaded in the radio section. 2) Update to the latest 6.2.1 nightly or try the 6.2.1 svn BRANCH -- Patrick Dixon www.at-tunes.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Patrick Dixon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=90 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18125 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
