I have been running Slimserver since yesterday with little to no issues thanks to reading this forum. I have Slimserver running on Fedora Core 4, I've installed the lame and shorten binaries and all is good from within my home network.
Last night I successfully used SSH tunneling from an XP box to the Slimserver from within my home network. All slimserver ports are blocked by iptables so it was definitely tunneling. Today I was trying to test out connecting from work so I was setting up some port forwards. My Fedora box sits behind another linux box that is my gateway/router for the network. I normally have no issues setting up port forwards as I do this on a regular basis for VNC, network cameras, etc. So I set up a forward from public.IP.address:5910 -> Internal.Slimserver.address:22. I could not get this to work at all. I tried several different ports and could never connect. I even tried just logging in with a standard session through my SSH client and it would not connect. I have never actually forwarded a port for SSH from another box before so my question is I am wondering if there is something specific about SSH that make it not like being forwarded? Also, I am having trouble understanding how I can setup Slimserver to convert all music (.wav, .flac, .shn) to .mp3, but only for the remote (public) network. I see that when I have a player connected I can go to "Player Settings for "slimclient.ip.address" then go to "Audio" and there are settings for Lame quality level and Bitrate limiting. The way I understand the Bitrate Limiting section is that by default the server converts all formats (except .mp3) to uncompressed PCM. If you do have bitrate limiting set, it will convert everything to .mp3's at the selected bitrate (except for files encoded at a lesser bitrate). It appears that you must connect first with the remote client, and THEN change the setting? Is the setting global or just for that player? Thanks for any and all help! -- branas ------------------------------------------------------------------------ branas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2788 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19160 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
