Thanks for the info. To be honest I don't want to bother with a new perl
installation just for Slimserver. I don't need UTF8 on that box...

In any case the bug is not really an install bug, but it *is* a case
where one call to the Encode functionality is unprotected by a version
check as are all others in the module. I'm sure someone from
slimdevices will eventually spot this post, and make the change in the
subversion tree.
