Ok I think I have started to track down the problem. Fist off I think all along I had LAME installed (Correctly I don't know yet)
What I know. LAME will do >wav -> mp3 and flac will do wav -> flac. It does not appear that LAME will do flac -> mp3 directly. Looking at convert.cong, it looks like flac decompress to wav? and then Lame is called to encode into mp3. To review; I am trying to play flac files on Softsqueeze as a bitrate limited mp3 (ie 128kbps) If I play flacs or mp3s with bitrate limiting set to "no limit" in the Softsqeeze settings on the slimserver I have no problem. If I select for example 96kbps the track will not play. Softsqueeze shows the track and that it is 96kbps ABR, but will not play.
