On page 3 of Marc Field's instructions (http://fieldnetworks.com/slim/linkstation3.html) it explains what to do with the Perl that is already installed. It's in the second paragraph on page 3, the part that begins "Before installing the new Perl from the network share into its installation directory...."
I think Marc's guide is an excellent example of clearly written technical instructions. If you're not familiar with Linux, just take a little more time with the instructions. Read ALL the instructions before doing anything (I know, I know, instructions for even the most pedestrian thing always say that, but this time, it pays to really do it). Then just take it slowly, step-by-step, and you'll be fine. And if anything doesn't go correctly, post back here. Good luck.
