Hi
Forgive me if this is OT but it seems to be caused or at least made
more noticable by SS especially when scanning.
Mandriva 2006 LE, 2.4 Ghz Pent, 512Meg, Latest 6.3 nightly, 60,000
tracks on NAS, MySQL 5.0.18, perl 5.8.3

After a reboot top and free show about 384megs of memory free. Without
SS running the free memory does seem to slowly go down but it takes a
long while.
With SS running, memory goes down to about 3 or 4 megs in less than 12
hours.

Stopping SS and mysql only brings about 40-50 megs back to free memory
according the the top and free commands. The only way to get back to
the 384Megs I have after a reboot is to reboot.

>From what I've read, it looks like there is no swapping going on so the
OS is just using available memory since its there and its better to use
it that to waste it sitting on the chip doing nothing. If thats normal
and OK then sweet BUT, here is the problem. If, after a reboot, when it
reports it has the most free memory I start a rescan the scan fails
after about 30-60 minutes with an error in the logs "OUT OF MEMORY" and
then SS crashes.
Top and free show memory going down at a very quick pace while scanning
until it hits 2-3 megs.

I've tried other versions (older 6.3's and some of the 6.2's) and they
seem to do the same so I'm starting to wonder is my system has a
problem. Can anybody comment on this or offer any suggestions on how I
can determine what is causing the low memory problem. I'd also be
curious to see what other folks free and top output show. You can mail
output to
malioto (at) acpac (dot) com if you don't want to clog the list.

Thank you and my SS thanks you
