Now I could be wrong because I'm a novice at this, but it appears to me as though there is a problem with the amd64 package. In http://debian.slimdevices.com/dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/ the Packages file references libyaml-syck-perl but dictates the i386 architecture. So apt-get install slimserver doesn't work for me because it can't install libyaml-syck-perl.
I'm sure I could have found a way to force an install of the i386 version, but instead I found a amd64 version of this package. I then had to install a few other dependencies before I could install the libyaml-syck-perl package, and then finally install slimserver. Would it work if the Packages file referenced an amd64 version of the libyaml-syck-perl package instead? I spent several hours trying different methods to get my install to work (download tarball etc), but it was only when I figured this route out that things started to click for me.
