Well, I'm in a different situation to you:

I'm using MythTV from svn because (for me) there's too much stuff needs
fixing to consider using a released package.
I'm using the SlimServer 6.5b package but from before the MySQL
changover, so that's not an issue yet.
I've also recently upgraded to Dapper which has more recent MySQL
packages. (Though the motivation was that it now includes support for
my VIA graphics chipset and the DVB cards)

Before the Ubuntu upgrade I was using MySQL 4.1 with MythTV because I
wanted to make some particular SQL query that 4.0 didn't support.
