I have a Squeezebox 3 with the SlimServer running on Windows XP (all
runs fine apart from having to have the PC turned on). After reading
the forums and Wiki, a NAS device seemed the way to go, so I purchased
a LinkStation HD-HG250 :-

1) I read http://fieldnetworks.com/slim/linkstation.html "Installing
SlimServer on a LinkStation"
I have a MIPS processor LinkStation firmware version 2.05 (so even
telnet from a Windows PC was disabled)
The LinkStation was already configured with WMA files copied from a
Windows XP PC (may not be the finest format, but I'm still learning and
can re-shred later).

2) Downloaded OpenLink firmware available from
http://linkstationwiki.org/Projects/OpenLink.
Had to rename filename.tar.tar to filename.tar.gz on the Windows PC
before using file manager to copy to SHARE area on LinkStation.
Reflashed the LinkStation with the OpenLink Firmware - this enabled
Telnet and gave Perl 5.8.7, but no indication of root access - telnet
sessions did not ask for a username or password.

3) Downloaded the SlimServer software from
http://slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html, labeled "Perl Source Code
(tar.gz)".
Changed directory to the network share
"tar xzvf name-of-downloaded-file"
Moved the directory "mv name-of-downloaded-file /mnt/slimserver"
Create directory for slimserver files "mkdir /mnt/slim-server"

Go to the correct directory "cd /mnt/slimserver"
Run "./slimserver.pl --daemon --prefsfile
/mnt/slim-data/slimserver.pref --cachedir /mnt/slim-data"

BUT

The following modules failed to load: DBD::SQLite XML::Parser
HTML::Parser Compress::Zlib

Now not sure what to do next (VMS & Windows - ok, but Linux poor ...) -
an advice please ?
