Thanks for the speedy reply Dan. mysqld -V reports that it's version
4.0.24. I tried upgrading via apt-get, but no joy. Here's the repos I
have in my sources.list:
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib
non-free
deb http://security.debian.org stable/updates main contrib non-free
I'd try using testing or unstable if possible.
4.0.x isn't supported at all, FYI. You need 4.1.x, but we recommend 5.0.x
