I thought folks might be interested in an update.

The executive summary is that taking the firmware through the
appropriate revisions to go from 6.3.1 -> 6.5.0 -> 6.3.1 seems to have
crippled one of my players, apparently permanently.

I say apparently permanently as I sent my hardware in to Slim Devices,
it came back, and the problem isn't fixed. I haven't gotten any
response from anyone at Slim Devices as to what (if anything) was done
with my box, or what should be done next.

It still will not hold static IP settings and cannot "see" my
slimserver on the network.

All I did was to make the mistake of upgrading from 6.3.1 to 6.5.0 when
I didn't have the requisite Perl version available, and then downgrade
back to 6.3.1.

A second Squeezebox made it through the transitions OK and is working
fine on my network.

I'm baffled, confused, and angry.

I had been considering purchasing a Transporter but when a piece of
hardware is returned with no documentation -- at all -- as to what was
done with it, and then it displays the exact same problem within 2
minutes of getting out of the box, well, it makes me less than
enthusiastic about shelling out the $2k.

Oh, and I wouldn't be spouting off here except that no one at Slim
Devices has responded to my (multiple) emails, and I need to vent.

Grrr!
