I'm managing 3211 albums with 47012 flac encoded songs by 1265 artists on an ext3 formatted raid setup on a NAS and have no file system performance issues. Whilst some of the other file systems may have performance gains on ext3, ext3 is rock solid and more than fast enough to cope with slimserver's demands. I doubt you'd see any changes switching to a different file system.
