You need to try the new 5.0.26 version of mysqld.

To do this:

cd /opt/slimserver/Bin
Make sure there is no mysqld file in this directory; if there is,
remove it. Then
ln -s /usr/sbin/mysqld mysqld

Make sure /etc/conf.d/slimserver has SLIMSERVER_OPTS="--d_mysql"

Do "ps ax | grep slimserver". Make sure slimserver.pl is not running.

If the file /var/run/slimserver/slimserver.pid exists, remove it.

Then start slimserver.

Then quickly do "ps ax | grep mysqld"

Then check the contents of /var/cache/slimserver/mysql-error-log.txt
and post it here.
