To debug the mysqld problems, do the following: Edit /etc/conf.d/slimserver and set SLIMSERVER_OPTS="--d_mysql"
Then restart slimserver (do not reboot!). Remove /var/run/slimserver/slimserver.pid if needed before you start slimserver via "rm /var/run/slimserver/slimserver.pid".
