Yes, it is.  Best Practices say to set things so even the owner of the
program can't delete it.  (Ie, why apache sets all its files to be
owned by root instead of www-data.)   This way if there is some
horrible bug in Slimserver it can't delete itself or allow others to
write in the Plugin directory.

Just another layer of security that is good practice, especially for
daemons that listen to the outside world.
