Hi. Personally, I'd recommend you use the debian package, instead of using a raw tar.gz. I'm using the testing deb myself (on Kubuntu Edgy), which is now up to 6.5.2 (more precisely 6.5.2 - 11405), and it's been smooth as silk. Not a bug in sight.
