Thanks for the replies so far. Very useful. I do have some linux experience, almost everything except networks. Yes a switch would cure the problem, however attaching one of those would soon solicit a sarcastic email from the network police.
Also, I can't just register the MAC address for the companies network and plug it into a spare network port as these are fixed to 100Mb full-duplex. I want the routing to the eth0, as others are using softsqueeze. "Really: it is not hard to type: ifconfig eth1 inet 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0" Is that it? I'll try on Monday. A lot of this Linux stuff is like a magic trick. It looks very complicated until you find out how its done.
