For a while now I've had this problem. I thought it was hardware, but I
keep switching around the hardware, and wherever SlimServer goes, the
problem follows (and more importantly, when SlimServer goes away, so
does the problem).

I'm using SlimServer 6.5.1 on SuSE 10.2 (was 10.1 with same symptoms).

My server runs fine for a period of time. This period may be hours,
days, or weeks. Then, suddenly, none of my Slim clients can connect to
it. More interestingly, NOTHING can connect to it over the network. I
can't even ping it--nothing. No route to host. So I think that some
of my network equipment is bad, or hand-made cables aren't so good.
Nope--I get the same results using a store-bought crossover cable
direct from one PC to the server. The thing is on, but not responding.
That same setup with the old server (no longer running SlimServer)
works fine. The subnet, etc, are all static and all fine. Because the
problem has jumped from one server to another, I believe I've ruled out
NIC problems.

Currently, the server is headless, making it difficult to troubleshoot.
However, the old server was my main desktop PC. When this would
happen, I could still work at the computer. I could still browse the
Internet, I could even ping other machines on the network--they just
couldn't ping me (stealthy!). Again, I thought something must be
terribly wrong with my network setup, but I've been over it again and
again.

So now I'm finally looking at /tmp/slimserver.log and perhaps every
time the server dies, there are one or more lines in the log that say
"no space left on device". Aha, disk crash! Great, so I look at the
disks! My /home partition has 28GB free, and my / partition has 15GB
free. The server has 2GB RAM. My collection is 3566 files.

What on earth can be going on! Could SlimServer really be creating
15Gigs of data files and crashing the server? Even if I can't stop
this, how can I minimize the risk of this? Any other troubleshooting
tips?
