Well that explains it then. The path is given as /usr/sbin/Plugins/IRBlaster when all this time I've been playing around with /usr/share/slimserver/Plugins/IRBlaster. I'll have to change the path because there is no /usr/sbin/Plugins/IRBlaster directory. I just did that, and I don't need to alter the permissions - it works right away now. ...it's always the simplest thing, isn't it? :-) No wonder why all my permissions modifications failed.
