Excellent. Yeah, if you had anything other than 6.3.0 on your WinXP
install, it had different firmware which would prompt you to update
everytime.

To get the current version, use Slim Devices' instructions for Debian
as Ubuntu is based on Debian:

That's what I did, worked fine. Remember to type "sudo" in front of
the command if you get an error about permissions.

It depends which model - Canon have released a few, there are
reverse-engineered ones and there are generic ones. On some models,
there's just nothing you can use though, like my MF5770. Canon is
definitely Linux-unfriendly.

Be observant of what the commands do - they're not all that crypyic.
After a while, you'll start to see commonalities. You'll realize you
did this before.

I am no more than a newbie myself. Just this morning I solved a
problem I've had for a few days now with the IRBlaster plugin when it
was pointed out to me it may be trying to write files to a different
directory than I thought:

I still have issues with my CD-RW drive, writing discs and ripping
using the directory I mounted it to. I'd also like a few desktop
customizations - removing the useless Desktop Search icon, for
instance. Haven't investigated that one yet.
