I'm still running a 6.5.1 beta version of Slimserver on FreeBSD
6.1-STABLE, since it works for me well enough.

The bulk of my music is in ALAC format, with some strays still in AAC
format or MP3. Nearly all of this music was ripped and encoded using
iTunes on a PPC Mac.

Everything was working fine, until I was bored and decided to upgrade
faad to 2.5 from 2.0. After that upgrade, all my AAC files played as
static.

Wild.

My slimserver-convert.conf looked like this:

# Transcoding for AAC files.
mov aif * *
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$

After poking at it a bit, I ended up changing my
slimserver-convert.conf to output as wav instead of aif:

# Transcoding for AAC files.
mov wav * *
[faad] -w -f 1 $FILE$

I'm guessing this was an endianness issue (PPC Mac, x86 FreeBSD), but
what I don't quite get is why it worked ok with faad 2.0 and broke with
faad 2.5. I suspect it has something to do with libmp4ff, which exists
with faad 2.0 but not 2.5.

I'd welcome any ideas as to why, but this post was primarily intended
to put the problem and solution in the archives for posterity.
