Rubyripper isn't maintained in the Ubuntu repositories so it won't show
up in Synaptic.

There's a way to install it that it shows up in Synaptic after you
install it - this was the case for me with 0.3. I can't remember what
I did to get it this way. But I used this page:

http://monkeyblog.org/ubuntu/installing/

which is extremely useful. I must've used checkinstall?

This time I went with what was in Rubyripper's README:

> Run from directory:
> * `make all`
>
> Install and deinstall (run with root priveleges):
> * `make install_cli` to install the command line interface
> * `make install_gtk` to install the gtk2 interface
> * `make install` to install both

It doesn't show up in Synaptic this way, but this is no big deal since
Rubyripper isn't in the repository - you will never see that there's an
updated version. Uninstalling is also in the README:

> To deinstall:
> * `make uninstall`
