Hey tuco, I'm not sure if I can help much but I saw your post while trying to track down a solution to this very problem, almost. I'm running SlimNas from Michael Herger on a FreeNas box. He has made some really excellent contribs here and this one is really fine as well but it's hard (for me) to get some of those 'extra' codecs onto the abreviated Freebsd base of FreeNas.
Back to the issue at hand, I also have a Slimserver 6.5x on a headless Ubu7 server box I don't remember which since it started bugging and I uninstaled it for now. Also an old install on my Ubu7 desktop. One thing I recently discovered for the headless box is the great program 'wajig'. It's a super-duper cli for apt-get. You might need to get some more libs like sox? whatever that is. But apparently that's what SS uses on Ubuntu for .ogg re-encoding. $>sudo apt-get install wajig You might have to enable the 'Universe' and 'Multi-verse' repositories for any of this stuff. I have my SS playing almost all the formats it's capable of playing/encoding. Playing to anything other than a Squeezebox does seem a bit dodgey, though. I've found VLC to work the best on all major OS's as an alternative to a real Squeezebox as long as you don't stream .ape's (monkey's audio). Foobar2k is very nice as well but that's windows only,...a shame. iTunes is buggy in that it loses sync constantly. SoftSqueeze works very well but it's somewhat picky about which version from what I can tell and it tends to be a real resource hog being a java app. I run it headless and that really helps keep the resources usgae in check. I do really like how you can control the volume in Softsqueeze from the browser. I've recently run into a problem with skipping tracks with Ssqueeze. I have to ^c and start it again. Hope that helps, curly -- curly ------------------------------------------------------------------------ curly's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5100 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36068 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
