I didn't say it did....  I don't know nor care about what YOUR server
runs.  The question was why an apt-get command wanted to install
postfix.

No reason to require postfix specifically, no.  There are MANY reasons
to require a mail-transport-agent (which in Debian means
"/usr/(lib|sbin)/sendmail", not "something that listens to tcp port
25")

Dependencies often install unexpected packages.  Hence why I said to
install nullmailer to appease it: it will allow cron to send reports
correctly, takes very little space and no cpu time or RAM when it isn't
running.
