It should, but I've not used it in a very long time so cannot comment. 
The reason I said to remove "deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable
main" was just so you don't have conflicting sources.  You could just
as easily put a # at the beginning of the "deb
http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main" line.

One thing I should have added is that it is probably not a bad idea to
uninstall slimserver before doing the update:

    sudo apt-get remove slimserver

I also found that getting rid of the database and thus forcing it to be
recreated took care of some instances when slimserver didn't want to
start - this was particularly the case going between versions of
slimserver, especially 6.x to 7x.  I'd do this directly following the
uninstall.

    sudo rm -R /var/cache/slimserver/MySQL
