Hi BPA, thanks for your suggestions. After rebooting the server things appear a bit more clear. Non-AlienBBC internet radio streams work fine, and like you said all Alien streams appear dead. I'll try upgrading mplayer and see what happens.
Also as you said the bitrate restricting on the server side causes far more trouble than it solves. Most internet radio streams are <=128Kbps anyway and restricting them further results in loud white noise. If I play local FLAC encoded media, also server restricted, then XMMS shows the bitrate jumping from 96 to >160 and the playback is awful - in short it looks like the limit doesn't really work at all. Do you happen to have a custom-convert.conf line for RTSP-MP3 conversion already? I'm a novice to the conversion utils and it would save me a lot of man page thumbing. I dare say I'll figure it out but clues are useful! I will also try to limit the bit rate here and see what happens - somehow direct hacking command line tools always appears more robust than pointy clicky interfaces. -- hellesangel ------------------------------------------------------------------------ hellesangel's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5658 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43429 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
