Hi all

This week I upgraded my kubuntu to 8.04 and my slimserver stopped
working. I don't remember which version I was using, but I suspect it
was 6.0-ish.

I noticed that the new squeezecenter was available on the .deb
repository, but after installing it I found it had forgotten all of my
settings and now required a squeezenetwork account to work. I refused
to continue and removed squeezecenter, since I don't want to use any of
those services, I just want to use my own music on my own squeezebox
(v1).

So I found and downloaded slimserver 6.5.4, assuming that this is still
the old version with only local network dependency. However, the .deb
didn't install and all the dependencies (lib...-perl stuff) didn't get
resolved. I downloaded the tarball with CPAN, but I still had trouble
getting it to work. It appears that if I run the slimserver.pl from the
place where I put it, it works, but I want to run it from /etc/init.d
and friends, so now I'm looking for a way to start it from there... Any
ideas?

thanks

Simon
