Thanks for this thread. I had the same problem.

The problem occurred because I run all "testing" branches on my debian
machines.

The maintainers should promote 7.1 to the testing repository. The
testing branch is now using perl5.10. It doesn't make much sense to
have the the slimdevices testing branch out of sync with the debian
repositories.

Keeping the branches is sync would save many customers from this
annoyance.
