I have a brilliant idea: why don't you split squeezecenter Debian
package into 2:

squeezecenter
squeezecenter-cpan-slim

First one would include everything, but CPAN modules and 'Require
squeezecenter-cpan' package. Second will 'Provide squeezecenter-cpan'
and include your build of CPAN modules.

I guess such split would require minimum efforts on your side but would
allow us to create and maintain squeezecenter-cpan-debian which would be
an alternative to 'squeezecenter-cpan-slim' but instead of including
actual modules we would just setup correct dependencies?

On the upside load on your ftp servers will be reduced somewhat :)
