You don't need an internet connection to restore the OS. The eeepc uses
unionfs to maintain a pristine copy of Linux (on /dev/sda1, I think) for
restore. 

BTW, I installed SC from source and also softsqueeze. I use it for
plugin devlopment while I'm on the train!
