Thanks! That appeares to have done the trick. I guess I should have thought of that myself, but I got tunnel-vision in the other direction - that I should avoid the OS versions.
What's the best way to make an init script to run the SqueezeCenter tarball version as a service? I think I might have the RPM version's init script somewhere. I think it used a config file. Should I use it and edit its config file to point to the new directory, or is there a hard-coded version I should use, or none of the above?
