Yes, I've checked volume a few times -- both amp and SB.  I have also
plugged the output directly into a line level subwoofer.  It wouldn't
sound perfect, but I should hear something.

I did check the digital output.  I plugged it into my DVD input on my
surround sound system which worked before and after I did this.  

I tried both resets.  No luck.

Thanks for the help.  Any other suggestions?  It really bothers me that
it works under Windows and not Linux.  Is there a complete list of
dependencies somewhere?  Could it be a library issue?
