Some specifics regarding your problem will be helpful. Your issues may have absolutely nothing to do with Linux. I recently purchased a Duet and had major difficulty getting it set up. The player would configure and work via the web interface, but the controller would just not connect to my server.
My issue (I think) was that I had a username and password set up for Squeezecenter since I remote stream.
