Ah, that's right, I forgot one other critical variable: installation method for SC. I've had a hard time (ie, 100% failure) getting deb packages to install on LSs, so I install from the tar.gz files (in contrast, the deb installs like a breeze on my Ubuntu box). If I remember correctly, Farallon gave up on the deb packages and uses svn -- is that what you're doing too? If so, then you're over my head, but as long as that's not working you might consider trying the tarball.
