The first thing I did was put it on a hardline. :) I tinkered for a while last night and made some more observations but they don't make any sense. Most interestingly, after restarting the server process, music streaming was fine, though the screen saver/clock display was still acting up. This ain't Windows, restarting the program should not be a solution.
