It *should* run without you having to make changes at root level. In run Ubuntu 8.04 -a Debian derivative- and 7.2, as well as all prior stable versions, installed like a charm automatically via the debian.slimdevices.com stable main software source.
It was only for playing M4As that I had to make a simple root level edit.
