just to confirm, the script that I use (which I'm guessing we both yanked from that wiki) also has the
su - $USER -c $MUSICHOME"MusicMagicServer start & > /dev/null" command in it. pfarrell -- I think the idea here is to provide flexibility for musicIP NOT to run as root. It works for me to have that command because I run MusicIP as a different non-privileged user than my default login...I can control, with permissions, stuff I don't want to show up. (and yes, I'm sure there are better ways :-) did "su" get somehow more locked down or removed or something in 9.04? I remember I had to go out of my way to enable "su" to elevate to the user to root since ubuntu only allowed "sudo", but to be honest I can't remember if "su" worked for other users before I enabled it or not! pfarrell asks a good question -- can you use "su" from the command line? -arm -- the_arm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ the_arm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9891 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62681 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
