I run the noCPAN tarball on Ubuntu. One problem that I ran into was that
the tarball still contains modules in its CPAN directory. After removing
some of those modules (Template::Stash and friends come to mind) I was
able to start the server using my local perl and its modules.

However, I did give up for now and went back to 7.3.3 after I couldn't
get the scanner to rescan. Maybe it's time for me to give up on noCPAN
and go to the tgz or deb version. I really like using my own mysql
instance though.
