Just ordered the components for an Atom based music server that I intend to run headless. Will remote into it with VNC from my MacBook whenever I need to do something with the server, which will be rare (hopefully.) My question for the community is: VortexBox or Ubuntu 9.10?
My current rig is an old P4 power hog running Ubuntu 9.04. It was a pain to setup, but has been running fine. Biggest problem is that it refuses to truly run headless. Ubuntu gives a monitor error on boot (and doesn't finish the boot process) if it doesn't detect a monitor connected, so I have an old unused monitor connected just to make sure the system will boot. Whatever I do for the new system needs to eliminate this. Anyone know if the monitor boot issue still exists in Ubuntu 9.10? Can VortexBox run headless? -- ajkidle 2x SBR, SB3, Boom, Radio, iPeng ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ajkidle's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18929 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76914 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
