Woohoo!!

Not sure exactly what I did, but started from scratch, nuking
Squeezebox Server from Linux, Virtualbox, and Wine, rebooting, then
reinstalling from scratch on Windows XP on VirtualBox and going through
all the settings judiciously along with various reboots.

Bottom line, is that now Squeezebox Server works as advertised on
Windows XP on Virtualbox on Linux OpenSuSE 11.3 with wonderful sound
and other audio including wonderful presence with all the settings at
moderate (50-60%) settings.

TBTG. What a pleasure.

But as for native Linux performance... that remains to be seen.

So, I'm delighted with this solution, but would much rather have the
same in native Linux. I know we can do it, I just don't know how. I
know you don't either right now, but I am equally sure we can figure it
out together in due course.

But in the meantime, enjoy http://tinyurl.com/37auvxd

May your vessels overflow...

:-)

Cheers, Andy L.
