I usually do migrate my install, so it should work for you.
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Backup shows what dirs need to be
copied over the new instance.
There is a lot of cruft in the cache directory, maybe you want to have
a look before making the archive.

Also, check you current squeezebox server user rights (with "id
squeezecenter") and make sure the new squeezecenter user has similar
privileges on the new machines. Groups could vary but you should get
the general idea; To make user squeezecenter belong to another
(secondary) group, use "sudo usermod -a -G anothergoup squeezecenter" 

If the numerical id of the squeezecenter user has changed, you'll need
to "sudo chown -R squeezecenter:squeezecenter" the files after
restoring.
