I think I'd try and borrow a second router and try it out. Do you lose internet access at these times? I've had problems with the internet dropping out, but as long as the home network settings are ok, that is usually rock solid. So I've lost radio and last.fm but can still play all my music fine.
I also have a hacked joggler. Mine hosts the squeezebox server so I no longer need the main PC on all the time.
