I followed your steps pretty closely. I had to do the remove procedure a couple times to finally "shake loose" the remnants of the various dependencies.
I had to force an install of the mysql developer libs because the squeezeboxserver package did not demand them itself and kept failing. Once I did all that, I successfully installed and started scanning my library again. No more rebuffering. (I was running my Boom with a direct ethernet cable connection on a gigabit network so I knew this was not a wifi or bandwidth problem.)
