Works great thank you :) Now i can use the hardware and use the volume no static . I can also use default and mix the sound with the system sound without 100% cpu . This might be painfully obvious to many linux buffs but ,using my mint 13 desktop i observed : For Hi-Fi use ,use the hw: approach you get full control of the hardware , but it monopolises that hardware (no system sound etc ) which is exactly what you want ! i do not have USB DAC around otherwise I would have tested that one to. I have a multichannel sound card so i could use some other device possibly and I also have an hdmi output which is another possibility. If I want to mix the sound i use default , now the squeezelite sound is mixed with the rest of the OS sounds with pulseaudio this is ok for casual use , but note that it is mixed and mixed sound will be transcoded to a common sample rate for the dac in the sound card . So in this case it's controlled by */etc/pulse/daemon.conf* the default for Linux Mint is s16le 44100 everything mixes to this common rate or in the case of CD that already is the right rate it's not re-sampled . Make a suitable compromise here or exploit this mixer for your purpose ,( do figure what your sound-card is capable to first ) You fudge with "default-sample-format " ,"default-sample-rate " and "resample-method" (resample-method is a cornucopia of algorithms from the very crude to the very best there is ). This obviously affects cpu load so for casual desktop use it might not be wise to resample youtube to s32le 192000 using src-sinc-best-quality :) If you have Sound quality demands you should go the dedicated hardware route getting and soundcard or USB device that you direct SqueezeLite too . arm version ? who will be the first to build a rasberry/squeezelite USB dac combo ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
